Help in removing oil pressure line at filter canister

Hi guys. I'm right now trying to remove the oil pressure line at the oil filter canister on an 82 240D. I've got the 12 MM loose but the entire plastic line also moves with the 12 MM. If I remove the 12MM nut, the plastic line will twist along with the bolt and plastic line would break. Is this the way this line is constructed or if I jiggle it enough will it loosen independent from the nut? Or do i need to go into instrument cluster and remove from there so that the entire line twists with nut? Thanks guys.

If there is enough over length in the plastic line, cut it behind the nipple.

Nut should turn independent of the line but they tend to get tight on there. Som PB Blaster or something might help it get loose.

I've had the same problem. Try some Aero Kroil or PB blaster where the hose meets the nut. Let it soak for a while then give it a try. If that doesn't work, disconnect the line at the rear of the gauge so you can turn it as you remove it from the engine.

I got impatient when pulling my 79 616 engine and cut it, big mistake, the new replacement was spendy, next time I pulled the instrument cluster and let it go from that end. Not difficult and allot cheaper

Pull the instrument cluster out and loosen the Oil Pressure line were it screws into the Pressure Gauge. After that when you rotate the 12mm Fitting the line will not twist.

I had the same issue but did not think of doing the above until afrer I had cut the line.
When I attempted to get the Plastic Tubing back over the Nipple I found that the Old Plastic Tubing was to stiff to push it over the Nipple.

In my case rust and dirt had filled the space between the Screwed Fitting and the Plastic Tube.

I am thinking that if you get the Fitting off when you install it; it might be helpful to fill that space with Wheel Bearing Grease so dirt cannot get in and it should not rust.

Thanks guys for the suggestion of soaking with oil. It finally turned independent of the line. Now the next step is removing the long middle bolt holding on the canister to the block. I'm in the process of replacing the gasket between the canister and the block.

IIRC you will need to modify (shorten the short end) the allen wrench some.

Yes. I just found that out too! This isn't terribly difficult but it sure is a messy job with oil dripping on you when loosening the oil canister.

I have a short straight piece of the Allen wrench I cut off. then use the proper size box wrench to loosen the bolt. after that use a Gear wrench the rest of the way.

Been a while since I did this job. that`s my story as I remember it.
