idle cable replacement

I'm about to swap my broken idle cable in my '79.

How do I get this out/in from the dash? the chrome cap unscrews and loosens up, but i don't see how to get the black cap off (or do I need to undo something behind the dash?)

I tried a search and looked at dash removal in the resources but I didn't see this. If I missed it, I sure would appreciate a link to a previous run-down and I apologize for my searching non-prowess.

If I remember correctly you just pull.

The knob comes off

You unscrew the chrome ring.

And inside you'll find two half bayonet type thingys that clamp the cable in place when the chrome ring is screwed tight...

The black knob just pulls off, it can be tight so it may take a little tugging. Then screw off the chrome ring, you may have to hold the cable on the backside to keep it from spinning.

Thanks Gentlemen,

Used a pair of pliers, pulled off fairly easy. I'm guessing the plastic piece to keep the cable bent is to give resistance against slipping?
