btw, the fluid looks like someone poured honda PS fluid in it.
or perhaps some kind of trans additive... it does not look like any coolant mixture I've ever seen in a transmission.

I did not drain the TC so I think thats why it took 4 quarts to fill up.

If I remember correctly it didn't smell sweet like coolant, but I didn't specifically smell it and yes that is an image of my drain pan after I pulled it down from the car.

I think I will need to drain some more out. It looks like my drain plug is leaking, because my kit didn't come with a crush washer. I need to get one of those anyway and I will try and get a sample of the new mixture to see what it looks like.

Thanks for the help.

Previous owner stated that the radiator was replaced in 2008 and any work was done by the dealer. He is not sure when the transmission fluid was changed last though.
pentosin CHF - should that be used in a transmission? It doesnt look like it based on the viscosity ratings

Thanks everyone for all your responses. I haven't drained anymore fluid out, but I have reason to believe that it is just an additive or the color of the fluid based on all the information gathered.

New radiator - 2008
Coolant level has not changed in the past two days
No discoloration in the coolant
Shifting remains consistent with before filter change
No foam in the fluid
Bottle test (50/50 DEXIII to Coolant) did not resemble the drained fluid

I have a couple more questions:

What is the best way remove all of the old fluid from the transmission?

I hear mention of draining the TC, I am guessing there is a drain bolt on the TC behind the inspection plate?

Will draining the torque converter and dropping the pan allow most of the fluid to drain out?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks again.

I pulled the drained the torque converter and transmission again and saved some of the oil in a bottle and left it over night. The fluid has not separated and I do not see any signs of coolant in the bottle.

This fluid also smelled like hydraulic fluid.

It is possible to use hydraulic fluid in an automatic transmission?

It is a hydraulic circuit, but I am wondering if this might have done any damage?

Thanks,

Keith
