What is it worth 82 300D?

Guys,
We are looking at downsizing and we have a 1982 300D sedan with 144k miles on it. The car is silver with blue interior. The paint is an 8 out of 10--was repainted in the mid 90's by the Mercedes dealer, interior is 10/10 except the dash has a few small cracks. The wood trim is like new, seats and carpet are perfect. The car was a European delivery, have all the original paperwork. We are the second owners, first was a family friend from Germany. All maintenance has always been done ASAP within the last 3k miles the car has new Michelin tires, new brake system (pads, calipers, lines, master cylinder), all bushings in front suspension done with alignment, all soft fuel lines replaced. New motor mounts. All locks, switches, sunroof and windows work as they should.

The AC needs a recharge as it holds through the summer but has a small leak over the winter. CV boots are cracked but not torn--do not make any noise. A transmission leak has developed, I have been told it is a front pump seal.

The car is garage kept, but currently stored at my parents in SC 2hrs away. It starts on the first try everytime and drives beautifully, Turbo spools very smoothly. We were planning on keeping it for another 20 years but really don't have the room. Would it be better to get the transmission leak fixed or sell as is.

Thanks
Daniel

That depends on the answer to: How significant is the leak?

If it's just a small drip when parked, then sell as-is and make sure to note on the bill of sale that the leak has been disclosed and the purchaser has had an opportunity to inspect the vehicle.

If it's at the point that it needs to be checked and topped up every week or cannot be driven reliably for a highway trip (for example) then in my opinion it will be worth $500-700 less.

The leak is to the point that it needs to be topped off weekly, I would not hesitate to drive it on a long trip as it has always been very reliable.

I think you have been quoted prices that the DIYers here are willing to pay, if they were in the market.seems you described an almost cherry car, with low miles, and the repaint was handled by MBZ, itself, . . . so, I think, especially after you take care of the leak, you could get a lot more on CL.

It sounds to me as if it might be worth more with a little work.

well, it is a SC car which means no rust. I would imagine it would fetch a lot more in the northern states.

I am in NC and I am a DIY craigslist bottomfeeder.
