Its not looking good right now unless my gauge moves slowly from here to empty.
At.270 miles and still closer to half tank then quarter tank right now.been 9 days now.where my 91 560sel would need a.fill up at 270 miles.also but only 12.54 mpg in that car.

I ran out! When this 240d's needle says empty, it is!! LOL
I seem to get just under 400/tank in this 1982 240d 4 speed. 28-32mpg seems to be my averages. Hope it jumps up a little in the winter with no AC on.

Side note: I'm going up to 205/75r-14 michelins on the 18th(Sale starts Nov 18th 2011). Hope to bring my RPM's down a little. Maybe I can squeeze out a couple more mpg??

you understand that the RPM's will only go down if you drive a slower indicated speed right?
I mean, increasing the tire size will NOT change your speedometer's setting. so unless you have it calibrated for the larger tire size, indicated speed will still give you previous RPM's. you will be going faster than before however.

pfft. not worth the expense of having a speedometer calibrated for what 2% DIFFERENCE in speed?
just drive a tad slower indicated speed.

Borrow a GPS, like a Garmin or Tom Tom. It might actually bring it to a better accuracy than it is now depending on how far off it is now and in which direction.

Hell I have 225/60-15 tires and a transplanted 2.88 center chunk and it puts my 1983 speedo spot on with its readings. (not that I actually TRIED to do it that way).

My speddo is 4 mph too fast .and odometer is off.
Gps says.28.5 miles
odometer reads 29.5
1 mile fast every 29.5.miles
thats with.stock 14 in tires
i want to run my old.91.560.sel tires on it.so it will be off even more.

I just hate leaving my gps in that one car just to keep track off the mileage for mpg purposes

That is about right for economy.

Swapping in a 369? Yikes! You will have a slow drag racer, a 3 liter car with all the road engine noise of a 240d and the fuel economy of a 59 Buick!
