engine weight

I am going to pull the engine out of the parts car ( eventually ), and after having done a bit of a search, can't find the answer.
What does a 5 cyl, fully dressed engine weigh, and if I do the factory suggested engine and trans combo pull, how much weight is involved ?
Thanx.

How about Heavy.

This was discussed a few months back, don`t remember the exactweight. but with the trans and engine, probably 600#.

I have pulled an engine combo 3 times here in the driveway with my engine hoist, by my self. Fiirst time I had no earthly idea what I was doing , now I kinda think I do.

I already knew heavy, just wondered if it would be within the range of the lifting beam in the garage. It will take a cast iron 300 cu in ford truck 6 cyl, but I am leaning toward renting or acquiring a shop crane.
Did you pull yours as a unit, or just engine ?

About 20 yrs ago the first engine I pulled here was out of my Datsun PU. think it weighs 475# plus the weight of the 5-spd. I didn`t have an engine hoist, but do have a chain hoist.

I ran a 4X6 beam across the celing joists of the old barn. one end I placed a 4X4 under the joist/beam, and secured it so it couldn`t move. the other end sits on a wall that divides the 2 halves of the barn. it is very secure and solid, I used it 2 times before I acquired the engine hoist that I use for the MB`s.

I have always pulled the engine and transmission as a unit.

This is not exactly the safest way to pull an engine.

I believe the engine is around 525, the tranny I am not sure of but have weighed them before and posted the weights so a search of the forum should reveal the tranny weight.

I think the OM617 and Ford six are very similar in weight ( have lifted both) around 500.

500 pounds is correct. I just took my old om617 to the scrap yard and that's what it was on the scale.

Charlie

While very dangerous, it was at least quite entertaining. I can't wait to get home and watch it with the sound up!!!

OK. No doubt about it. My lifting gear is a LOT stronger than what they used. On the downside, I have not got that many people I could con into helping me do it that way!
(As a side note, that was one rugged wheelbarrow.)

It was a light weight gasser engine.

I saw this while looking at another video. I had to watch it to the end, just knew that contraption was going to give out.
wonder what country this is in?

amazing to see these guys w/o any work boots, or some kind of foot protection. no way those 2 guys would be lifting a 617 engine by hand.

then watching them run that engine out the driveway and down the street, reminded me of the keystone Cops.

Hey Jerry, there are a bunch hanging around Home depot that could lift it out for you.

Yeah the one I bought was more than 10kg (MW pump) - the seller had to pay a bit more to the post office to send it to me...
