Beware the craigslist car flipper!!!!

I'm not sure where this post belongs but I figured I owe it to y'all to call this particular car flipper out in the atlanta area. I just sold my 87 300d a week and a half ago to this guy for $2300 all issues disclosed (it was sort of a basket case but fair condition). Now I see it posted back on craigslist with fresh paint and a few small cosmetic items fixed for $5800. Now, I have no problem with someone making a buck but he is misrepresenting the true mileage (claims 172k when I told him it was really 230K but gave him a spare diesel odometer since the one I had in it was geared for a gasser), and making a lot of otherwise completely false statements about the car which I know to be untrue (I have never run it on synthetic oil and he has no idea how often the previous owner before me changed the oil since I didn't know). This kind of garbage is what makes me hate dealing with people on craigslist. The really sad thing is this guy has several cars posted a month which I am assuming are just as misrepresented. Needless to say buyer beware. If anyone is actually interested I can give you a better idea of the real condition of the car.

I like the new glue plugs. Did 87's have traction control?

SO report him to Craig's list as a scammer. Provide the vin info in your report and give them the real story.

End of story for the BS artist.

This sounds oddly familiar.

Anyway, it would be interesting if the person ever got the title transferred. In Wisconsin one needs a dealer license if selling more than 15 cars per year. Or something like that. But people will "float" the titles right over to get around this. The only way to catch them is to ask for an ID when they try to sell it to you. Then when the name and title dont match, bingo.

vstech 10-27-2011 08:24 PM

I think it's 4 cars per year... at least it is here in NC...

LandYaghtLover 10-27-2011 08:28 PM

Guess its 5 cars in WI. Just checked.

ah-kay 10-27-2011 08:36 PM

The car looks decent.

Do a search on the phone # and 3 cars come up. I do not condone what he is doing. But he is not doing anything different from the dealer, trying to make a quick bucks.

I always asked the seller how long he had the car and make sure the name on the pink slip matches his. It is easy to tell a flipper from an above board seller.

after you contact CL with the real scoop, everybody should flag the ad.

You might have him on a TOC violation:

Craig's list is patrolled by it's viewers. All that needs to be done is for everyone who reads this thread, and agrees that the seller is misrepresenting the car, to flag the ad down.

It will be interesting to see how quickly this can be done.

If you carry it to the next step: that everything the person sells is misrepresented, then you will seek out all of their advertised items and flag them all down. And keep doing it.

Search for his phone # : 404-786-4882

He's selling the only M110 280 in the world that gets 32 mpg....typical

usually claims of double mileage are reserved for the diesels!

scottmcphee 10-27-2011 11:24 PM

you could add this post to the craigslist alert thread, it's a sticky

leathermang 10-27-2011 11:37 PM

Flagged !!!,.... I did my part....

RML 10-28-2011 12:12 AM

Nice teamwork. The ad is flagged for removal. :)

leathermang 10-28-2011 12:18 AM
