1981 300TD Needing Front Suspension Work

Hello I am new to Peach parts. I was wondering if there was anyone in the Augusta, GA area who knows of a good shop with reasonable prices for front end suspension work. Ball joints, bushings, control arms, shocks... I also have an oil leak, which I would like to diagnose and have fixed.

I would consider someone looking for a side job to do the work as well.

Mike

Hey Mike,
Just remember that if some one can be on here as long as Jim has been, he must be doing good work at a fair price.
The fly by nighters dont last long on here !!

By the way, welcome to the forum!
You will find us a friendly group who are very passionate about our MB's.

Good luck with your car !!

Avoid the "import" shop of Fenwick Street.

Here is an update from my original post about my required repairs.

With the help of a referral source and this forum I found Jim Ellington aka engatwork. He is a great mechanic that has a wealth of knowledge about W123 diesels, not to mention just an all around nice guy. After a few conversations over the phone I decided to give him a try, as the local auto shops and the Mercedes dealer wanted everything I own, including my arms and legs for the repairs I needed.

Jim completely rebuilt my W123 300TDs front suspension; replaced the front and rear flex discs on the drive shaft; adjusted my front calipers; replaced my front passenger side caliper and brake lines; replaced a rusted fuel line from the tank up to the engine compartment; replaced the main seal on the motor; replaced the fuel sending unit; replaced the rear hatch struts; and fixed an electrical problem for my kick down switch on the transmission. I am probably forgetting some things...but that's because he repaired a number of things on my car as a favor. The service I received from Jim is what will keep me going to him for all my Mercedes repair needs for as long as I live in Georgia. He will also be my number 1 referral for anyone I meet who drives a Mercedes.

In addition, I think it is important to note that his price for labor was very fair and he beat all the local shops' estimates by far. I even was able to pay for a rental car for the two weeks he had my car, not to mention all the parts needed for the job. All together I estimated that I saved at least half, what would have been my cost going with a local shop.

He took lots of pictures of the job and even assisted me with transportation as I live 2 hours from him.

I highly recommend using engatwork!!

I would rather be wrenching than moderating:).

Thanks Mike.
