Smile w124 300tdt fuel sending unit substitute

1245420104 is the part number in my (bad) fuel sending unit
does this substitute for any other part? sedan maybe? anyone tried this?

The wagon fuel level sending units are much shorter than the sedan's, because the tank lays down under the back, as opposed to verticle in the trunk.

A 123 wagon sender might work.
