I rigged something up using the oil separator from the stock air cleaner And routed the vent line with a hose that was too small to properly vent. I could barely blow through it. Anyway, just drove the car 20 miles and no issues. I am still not confident that the turbo will hold up.

If you didn't drive it much, in that condition, you may have luck on your side. Probably only time will tell. At least now you will know what the symptoms are if they do fail.

BTW, why did you do a homemade oil separator? If you were getting a lot of oil in the filter area, you might seal around the top of the separator. I ran a bead of RTV sealant around the "lid" and it definitely cleared up. Be sure and let it cure before running as you don't want even the slightest bit of RTV to end up in the crankcase.

Funny thing I thought I would share....

I rebuilt my 617.950 in 2004 with new pistons, rings and sleeves. There is never any visible blowby when the motor is running, but it would always burn 1 quart every 3,000 miles with absolute regularity.

Recently, when the motor passed the 53,000 mile mark, the oil consumption totally stopped, even after a full 5,000 miles. I was using Shell Rotella 15/40 at the time, but have since used just about every oil I have found on sale and it still isn't using a drop.

Much to the horror and dismay of many here in this forum, I even used Valvoline Racing 20/50 in the engine because I had a surplus of it on hand.

I even pushed the oil well over 10,000 miles recently because of school and commuting with no oil measureable oil consumption. I just did a valve adjustment last week and the inside of the engine is totally, spotlessly clean too.

I guess it decided to take 53,000 miles to fully break in????

I replaced the stock air filter setup with a Fram filter on a 90 degree elbow because I was tired of replacing the mounts. Plus I can hear the turbo better!

LOL. I was continuously repairing the stock air cleaner, plus its HUGE and in the way. I also opted to use a smaller perhaps less effective air filter to make things more simple.

So more on topic, is there a video showing the SD under full load? I agree it seems like turbo seals, but I would think that with a vacuum on the crank case breather it might help oil draining too.

...something to consider.

Can we embed youtube vids?

There's something odd about the behavior of this engine. Why was the oil pressurizing the turbo drain line instead of blowing out the dipstick and sending oil out the dipstick?

Thats what I would like to know. Also why do the turbo seals still work after all that?
