nailing at idle and worse at speed

My son replaced injectors with remans' today on his 83 240D. torqued to spec. He was working under the supervision of a long time Mercedes master tech at his shop. After all the work same issue. Kind of discouraging.
Other work done yesterday , valve adjustment, idle speed adjustment.
Engine starts up immediately and runs well save for the clatter.
Any advice : what to do, what it is?
Thanks,
Rich
PS: also we ran one can of Diesel Purge straight from the can last week.
Question:will Amsoil Cetane booster have an effect or even cause this nailing?

These little Diesels......

G'mornin',

Several of y'all sound like some of the folks that taught me Diesel Engineering/Operation......

My car has a slight nailing, when engine is at idle and is below operating temperature......I've been thinking that I have a dribbling injector......

Intend to have all of my injectors pop tested, and set to spec later this month......see thread I began a coupla days ago "Bosch Service".......when I spoke to the only Bosch Certified Dealer here in WV......he told me to run another brand of additive (Standyne Performance Formula) thru the engine, before I go thru the trouble of removing my injectors.......so I will do as the Bosch Tech advised......

.......am going to town today, will pick up a can of the stuff.......will visit a FI Shop that was recommended to me by the Bosch Dealer (it's about 120 miles closer)......and those folks sell the Standyne Products as they are a certified Standyne Shop.....

Standyne Performance Formula

I visited the Diesel Engine/Fuel Injection Shop yesterday, was very impressed wth the operation......told them that I wanted some of the "Standyne Ferformance Formula" diesel fuel additive......told them that the Bosch folks in St. Albans told me.....they agreed....."run some of this stuff, before you go thru the work of removing the injectors"......

....had a 3/4 full tank of fuel, no additives for last 3 or 4 fillups....poured the 15 gallon dose into my 300D......went about my business, Xmas shopping....unless I am totally nutz, this stuff made a definate improvement in "off the line" acceleration.......nailing seems a bit quieter as well, but that could be the weather.......will add comments as I burn a coupla tanks with this stuff......

Since we are talking British cars , Question why do British drink warm beer?
Because Lucas makes refrigerators.
