Brake Warning Light

Hey all,

My brake warning indicator started to blink a couple days ago. The indicator is the once that looks like this: (o)

What is 'normal' operation or the warning light? It only comes on when I do *not* have my foot on the brake. When I press the brake, light goes off.

I replaced brake pads 40k ago - I will check those - but I thought that the indicator would fire when I pressed the brake, not the other way around.

I believe it serves as both brake fluid level and brake pad wear indicator. Check the brake fluid as well.

I think there are two different lights, at least there on my 190. O mine the brake pad warning light is different from the E-brake light warning. My E-brake light was blinking as described and it ended up being my fluid being low. I think the brake pad light is just for the pad wear but I could be wrong.

Did you replace the sensors as well? That is the low pad light, but faulty sensors will give you a light too.

I replaced the sensors when i did the brakes 40 k ago. I'll check it out today and see if the pads are indeed worn.

fluid level is fine.

the parking brake light will also serve as a fluid low light, but the OP's (o) light is simply a pad wear light.
if it goes off, when you press the pedal, it may just need cleaning, but 40 K is a lot for front pads.
be sure and check the rear pads, as they do not have warning sensors...

Considering that the "sensor" operates by providing a ground path to the lamp circuit, how could the issue be related to "cleaning?"

... metal flakes from the pads, and the rotor accumulating in grease... I don't know, just saying that on when lifting the pedal is counter-intuitive to the normal operation of the sensor...

The fact it goes out when pressed seems a bit surprising, but it makes driving-sense that it would come on when you're not braking. If it only came on when your foot was on the brake, then you'd need to be braking and looking at your cluster at the same time for the light to be of any use. Since you would normally be looking outside when braking, then you'd never see it.
