my s-class diesel outcornered a rice rocket!!! man was that fun!

i still dont know how, but i outcornered a rice rocket(lowered civic) tonight on some s-curves by my house. My car is an 83 300SD. I pulled onto this road by my house that leads up to some s-curves, about a minute later i hear a roaring rocket(rice rocket) engine coming up behind me, and then he's tailgating me. I was fully intending on taking it nice and easy around these things, but now i had a challenge. I floored my old diesel, putting a nice cloud of smoke behind me, hitting the first s-curve at about 45.(they recommend 20 or 25,i forget), anyway, it was doing just fine so i pushed her a little more, and then it started to squeal, i was just on the edge. Next corner is a little tighter, so i settled in at around 43, she responded nicely and right after the apex of the corner i flored it and she exited a tad under 50, to my surprise the rice rocket was a couple lengths behind me!! after i backed off i could hear his rocket engine roaring like mad, he then didn't tailgate me anymore, and i got a nice wave out his sunroof as i pulled into my neighborhood. I"m not sure if he just couldn't drive or what, but that sure was fun

Me and a late model VW Jetta played that game on an I-80 onramp. I pushed the 300SDL thru some rather sharp curves at high speeds and needless to say he was left in my soot cloud.

Kids!

I have to believe that these kids/people were bad drivers.

Yeah, they were probably prudent drivers who didn't feel it would be safe tailing an SD that was ripping around corners. I sure would stay away. My 300D drives great for it's age and technology but there's no way it could "beat" a modern car (probably not even a hyundai) in equal fair conditions going against an equally aggressive driver. Well, I suppose I could beat one if I were the lead car on a single lane road.

While we're at it, I once beat a CLK430. Oh, the guy was in his sixties, his car obviously wasn't warmed up, and he was talking on his phone. Oh, and also, he probably didn't care! Is it still a victory?

What are you talking about? We aren't talking about accleration or top speed here, we are talking about the handling capability of our cars..

The hell a $8000 hyaudi will beat a 126 in the handling department. PLEASE.

The driver sure as hell was *trying* to beat me around the corner but simply could not.

Don't underestimate these cars suspensions, they are still far superior to alot of new cars on the road today.

Was it a one lane road? If not, did you start off with front position?

Even the cheapest modern cars nowadays are pretty good handlers. I once had to borrow someone's Hyundai Accent and it wasn't a bad car. It wasn't the fastest thing ever, but it handled pretty well. I had to borrow a Honda civic (stock) another time and that also was a great car. Maybe not as much "class" as a Mercedes, but extremely reliable, and you could feel it when driving it.

Two lane onramp, we were even or i was ahead by a 1/4 carlength. buy the time the ramp merged, i was ahead by around 3 carlengths.

Does a VW GTI fit the requirements of this bet. How about a 89 Diesel Jetta, once up to speed that little bugger would't stop for anything (curves, hills, trees, nothing)
