Manual Transmission Bolt Thread Sealant?

I am replacing all of the seals and gaskets in the 4-speed transmission I picked up before putting it in my car. It is the older style transmission with the iron case and separate aluminum bellhousing. The Haynes manual specifies that a thread sealant be used on the bolts that secure the bellhousing to the main part of the transmission as these bolts go all the way through into the transmission case. There is evidence of a blueish sealant on the threads of the bolts after removing them. Does anyone know what this sealant is or where I can get it?
Thanks,

Shane

The sealant is the Blue Loc-tite you can get at any auto supply.

Thread lock would make you use a truckers vocabulary the next time you want to take it out.

The correct sealant is hylomar. It remains in gel form

I thought it must be something special that remained a liquid.
Thanks!

Clean all the old Thread Loc off the bolts

soaking the Bolts overnight in Paint Stripper (The Nasty Gel Type stuff) will
dissolve the Loctite.
[Non-Chlorinated BPC and hand wire brushing will complete the cleanup]

DO NOT get the Stripper on your skin or in your eyes!!!!!

Are there different brands for the hylomar? It seems like there are a few different ones out there and I was wondering if some are better than others.
Thanks,

Shane

I Swear by Loctite 515 gasket eliminator

I use this when I need a flexible seal on bolts or fittings. Similar to Hylomar and a lot easier to find. I use it on my biodiesel setup , the only thing harder to seal than diesel is biodiesel. cheers Dan

The thread sealant is blue loctite, not Hylomar which is teal in color. Blue loctite is extensively by Benz, hylomar is not.
