Couldn't tell you, but I will try to get a photo tomorrow when it is light outside. I will probably drive right past where my friend works, and I will stop by and pop the hood and take a photo (I will call him first and tell him!).

Has a steel line from front of block to head, and appears to have a port for a flywheel sensor, if I'm looking at the right thing (between the bend in the coolant hose and the bottom of the filter canister).

The item with the green dashpot is the Vacuum Control Valve.
The steel line in pic #2 is for coolant. I agree, a ton of rust.

I've degunked the engine S/N, but can't get it all. 617.951 -- large space -- 06 appear to be the first two digits of the S/N (could be 00, but I'm fairly sure it's 06). Obviously I need more powerful lights and inspection mirrors. The transmission is 722 303 02 057100. Are these likely '81, or later?
Still looking for that mysterious sensor or lack thereof on the transmission adapter plate. Please see attached pic. Yep, the car's rusty. Nope, you wouldn't want to see underneath, but there's nothing structural -- no holes in the floor or weak frame/suspension members. Front floors look good inside under the mats. The dash has no cracking at all! Thanks. |

The last photo is close, but not close enough. The sensor or hole would be just out of view in the photo, behind the oil filter stand. You can feel around the adapter plate, and feel it sticking out of the surface, or just a hole if the sensor was removed. If no sensor, I imagine that just the IP has been changed.

um, are things different than the "D" models? The Turbo wasn't intro'd into the engines until 1982. '82-85 had turbos.

Isn't there an engine ID number somewhere on the engine that can be looked up to tell if it's the original, or later model engine?

Ever figure out why the warning buzzer was on with the door open and the key out of the ignition? My 83 300SD does the same exact thing.
