I can't find a five way connector either.

Metal mity vacs (mity vac is a brand name) have a good reputation, the one below has served me well for years.

Many thanks. I found a five-way at **************. There must be a rule against putting a URL in the forum, as the name was starred out in my previous post. Hopefully you'll be able to see the name now and I hope I'm not breaking any rules.

Oh, well. The name didn't show up again. If you want to PM me, I can give it to you then. Lesson learned though.

Restrictor?

Hello again. Yak, sorry, but I have another question after carefully reviewing all the photos again. In your "three-Y's" photo, there appears to be a fitting in between the two top Y's, that you have labeld "Restrictor." Is this a specific part? Did a search but was unable to come up with any references to it. Again, many thanks.

I wrote "restrictor" but the correct term is "orifice". The diameter is used to "tune" the flow of vacuum. If you remove the EGR, it may be trial and error to get the result that is most satisfactory to you. Or even with age the book-spec may not be how you want your car to run. There's a really long thread on tuning vacuum for shifting. The orifice diameter may/may not affect that.

One reference says to start the EGR vacuum tests with the yellow one installed. Yellow is 2 mm i.d. or unrestricted. You can see that my car had a red one.

Other info about color codes for the orifice from here: Operation exhaust gas recirculation (usa)

Orifice (63)

Orifices of different diameter may be installed between the two distributors on vacuum control valve (65).

Color code and diameter of orifices

green= 0.7 mm

white= 0.8 mm

blue = 1.0 mm

red = 1.1 mm

yellow = 2.0 mm (unthrottled)

107-17058

The ID of the orifice depends on the tolerances of the adjusting angle on regulating lever (1) of injection pump and vacuum control valve (65).

Model year 1980

The page is about the EGR system.

An Update

Weeks turn into months, but finally had a chance to work on the car.
Many, many thanks to Yak and others who provided information on fixing my vacuum system. Using the diagrams and a booklet and parts from Kent Bergsma, I was able to completely re-do the system. Everything looks like the photos Yak was kind enought to post.
Still have a lot of work to do as the pump is only reading about 17 and when I disconnect and plug the brake booster cable, it shoots up to about 24 - 25. So probably need to replace that. And the door locks have a big leak, so I've just disconnected the line for now and plugged the vacuum end. Did isolate the leak to one of the doors, not the trunk or fuel filler cap lock.
Anyway, once this is done I have to attack the sunroof - very slow and won't really more without pushing and pulling by hand. But that's for another day!
