92 300D Tail pipe rattling against body plastic: what can I use to dampen?

My tail pipe is too close to the plastic part of the body at the back of the car. As a result, it's rattling against it. Can anyone recommend some heat resistant material to put between the two?

Trying to figure out how it got this way....probably has something to do with my replacing the muffler hangers subsequent to the muffler being replaced....I guess now it's hanging higher.

Thanks.

you can probably loosten the clamps on the joints in your pipe and adjust its angles.

Hey Shertex, I would love to be helpful also, but how about telling us what car you are talking about. It is a common complaint I know, but when are the members going to catch on to this important fact, the make and model of the car matters.

Sorry...all my MBs are same...see signature. But it's the 92 300D.

Could be missing the rubber buffer to prevent the muffler from hitting the heat shield (and plastic body components).

I had this problem for a long time on my 87 ... just kind of a light rattling against the bumper. It was fixed by default when I dropped the exhaust to take the rear out and separated it at the four-bolt clamp. Which involved some sawing and four new bolts. Once I went to bolt it back up I realized you could affect the position of the muffler by rotating the whole thing ... kind of a challenge to hold it up in the right position while tightening the bolts ... iirc I used a scissor jack under the resonator to kind of balance it in the right spot.
So, if it's not the top rubber bumper missing, you might want to try adjusting it at that bracket.
Edit: from the parts diagram it looks like the 92 has a three-bolt bracket in the joint I'm talking about. Sorry. Shouldn't have assumed it was the same.
