Diesel Purge: Alternatives?

I was wondering if there was a more readily available diesel purge available. Lubro Moly is the only one I've heard of, but it's not available in the Olympia area (not even NAPA) so I'm wondering what else works. How about a 50/50 mix of diesel and SeaFoam?
Thanks

IIRC diesel purge is mostly Naptha and diesel fuel. Check the MSDS.

Try calling some local indie shops, they can probably get it. I get mine from a local VW diesel shop.

Id consider seafoam with diesel. Dont know the best ratio, seeems that the car can be run off of seafoam, but for lubricity and combustion stability, Id probably run 50/50 at least. Change your oil after! Soft metal wear will be increased.

Har, Har! I went into the local MB/German repair shop on the way home today. Looked very organized;the head wrench was German. Anyway, I asked him if he sold LM diesel purge and he reply was, "No, we don't need it here". "Really?" I replied. "Really (with a stern tone to his voice)". "Why's that?" I asked. "It doesn't work. I've never seen it do any good". He quoted me the price of $225 to test the injectors and $110 a piece to replace them if they were bad. I have to admit this guy looked like the real deal, but I'm not about to write off everyone on this forum that I read that rave about diesel purges. I guess anybody who works on his own MB is kind of a competitor to businesses like his, so I can understand his lack of enthusiasm for a home-brew fix.

Try it anyway

I have found diesel purge usually does some good, sometimes it helps dramatically, sometimes a bit. It is cheap and worth a try. Cheers Dan

Any napa should be able to order it, many of the employees dont want anything to do with the fancy foreign stuff unless you tell them where to look in the catalog to order it for you. lol

You'll want to steer well clear of that "SHOP"

He's ONLY interested in your Wallet/Pocketbook.

[AND he's full of Cat Poop!]

The proliferation of non-English speaking wage slaves seems to be occurring at NAPA too. It's sad, I used to boycott autozone because of their know-nothing quota hires. Now there are a few Napas where I have to do the same. The workers don't know enough English to properly discuss my desired purchases, so unless I specify, by part number, they can't get it for me...

It really stinks.

I have found that DP works but it is no miracle cure. The BEST thing I did for my 300CD was to install new injector nozzles. Made a HUGE difference!
Not a terribly difficult DIY project.

agree with Daman

Properly working injectors or new nozzles are the best fix. Diesel Purge works for a very short while. I don't buy it anymore.

Well that was crappy of him. He could have been a source for parts for you and still made his money. He can get it I know he can. I still spend hundreds of dollars a year at my local shop that I get all my parts from, even though he's never touched my car. You might call around and see if you can find a shop that has a better attitude towards getting you what you want, and not telling you your an idiot.

I don't think anyone here will claim it's a miracle cure for anything. It works well on fuel systems that have been sitting for a long time. It's a great preventative measure. It's not going to fix bad injectors, but it will clean gummed up injectors and make them perform better. If you engine is well maintained it probably isn't going to do much, but for a car that's been neglected or has sat it can be a cheap easy cure for fuel problems.

Or would you recomment mixing it?

2 stroke engine oil apparently does clean as well? I certainly feel a better response when I put a bit in the tank....

I applied for a job at AutoZone and one of the questions I was ask at the interview was if I spoke Spanish.
I was not hired.
It may be that there are some jobs that are not available to only English speaking folks.
