Brake Booster Interchangeability - w123
just wondering if it's true that all w123s have the same brake boosters. is that true for gassers to diesels? what about euro to federal to california? i thought they were different in diameters? anyone have part numbers for boosters for all the gassers and diesels if they're different? thanks!

now my next question: it appears that a new ATE brake booster is priced out of my current range (i'm too cheap). is it better to get a used one from a junkyard / forum member or buy a brand new one by a company called A-1 Cardone? how reliable will a yard booster really be? |

I can't speak for a yard booster but always try to avoid Cardone because of poor quality control. They rebuild lots of parts buy I've had things like starters and alternators test bad out of the box. I put a reman brake master on a 78 Datsun & it had an internal leak when installed. A steering box for a Dodge Ram wouldn't return to center. The replacement had to be adjusted on install and now has so much play that it will be replaced with another from a different re-builder.
That said, a steering rack for the Datsun was less expensive than inner tie rods alone and is working. The Ram alternator is also working at 15,000 mi. Apparently, sometimes Cardone gets lucky..

& I bet they are good !!
If getting one from a junk yard make sure that there is no oil contamination. If the VP has failed & oil found its way to the booster, the diaphragm will soon fail. Getting one from John (vstech) is a smart move!! You know its going to be good as he would have thrown it out by now if it wasnt !!!
