Anyone install Dynamat or something similar?
 

Contemplating installing a new stereo and also trying to cut down on some road noise.

Given that my W115 has plenty of sprayed on undercoating beneath as well as on top of the floor pans, I'm really wondering how much benefit there would be to laying down additional sound dampening material.

as discussed in other threads, as far as noise canceling goes dynamat is worth it weight in gold... but be prepared to have that gold cause you will spend a pretty penny doing it correctly. I spend almost 1000 bucks in just the material for a 90 Riviera did.

I'm going to order some of it for my TD.

the undercoating is nearly useless for sound, the material on the floorpan is lightly attached with clips, so it's not as good as dynamat because of the metal bond in that product.

Mine seem sprayed on. Pretty thickly, I might add.

Which begs a question...

Would I have to scrap all of the old material off and get to bare metal in order to achieve any dampening if I go the Dynamat route?

the sound proofing under your carpet is a hard layer of asphalt etc, and it's held down with metal clips

I would remove anything on your floor that's loose, for one just to see if moister had gotten under any of it. Any exposed metal would get a coat of rust prevention followed by the dynomat. Never hurts to take that extra step..

I installed B-Quite. It was a lot cheaper than Dyna-Mat. At least at the time. It was the only other one that gave specs as to its ablitites. I couldn't tell you how much it helped or otherwise. It installed fairly easily. I also, pulled out the asphault mats, repaired them, put B-Quite underneathe there. Repaired any rust. I did the firewall, and put some heat barrier/sound deadner there. It had aluminum foil with jute between it.
