I bought one of the Monark all-metal ones for $32 for my 300SD and couldn't be happier - it's much nicer than the Bosch new style ones - it works more like the old style (unscrew, pull/push action, screw when done) just isn't prone to leaking... So in time I'll get a couple more of those - I was just looking for a way to get the car driving in the short term...

Supposedly the new-style Bosch pumps are not compatible with biodiesel/WVO. Not using those currently but I'd like to at some point...

Or can they be reversed back near the gas tank underneath?
Typically they are reversed under the hood, because it is easy access.

Your information is reversed.

The older screw style primer is less tolerant of bio-diesel.

From https://**************.com/node/662:

"PLEASE NOTE our experience has show that these pumps will NOT work correctly with Bio-Diesel or Veggie Oil and they are not returnable if used with such fuels. For those applications please CLICK HERE to order the old style pump."

Interesting, that has not been our experience, quite the opposite.

P.S. this car has some issue with sensing the fuel level. It stalled out on the highway with a quarter tank left and wouldn't start again. I added one gallon of diesel and it started. Immediately filled up and confirmed that it had over 1/4 tank remaining.
Could be that some one has swapped the supply & return lines so that you are drawing fuel up the return line & the return fuel is going back down the supply line.

Edit ; just read that others are all ready on to it
