Whats a fair 617 Engine (that needs rebuilt)price
I have a 617 that runs but smokes excessively after a blown oil line ran the engine dry. Whats a fair market price for a 617 in this condition and what does it cost to rebuild?
|
2 to 300? Whatever you can get for it. The cost of a proper rebuild will depend on how much the parts are worn. From 2 to 5000 possibly.
|
We paid $550 for one with only 162k on it and virtually no blowby 2 years ago....
One needing a rebuild? $150? |
it depends on what's included with the motor... VP good, IP good, Injectors good, Cam good, Turbo good, Alternator good, A/C compressor good, bad oil damage to the motor, could spell NEW pistons, and liners, new bearings, new crank, oil pump, timing chain and guides, tensioner etc...
motor alone is worth about 80.00 at the scrap metal location... |
I am trying to sell an OM617 with 150K miles on it locally that I THINK (not sure) is in running condition for $150. Has everything- just sitting in a parts car I want to crush.
No takers after a month:mad: |
verified 150K? wow, I'd pull that and stash it in my garage until I found someone to take it for $1000... DO NOT CRUSH IT!!!
|
Oh- no way I am going to crush the engine. Just the ratty 300D it's siting in. The car has been fairly well stripped over the years and I was just storing the engine in it loosely. SWMBO wants it gone. I would rather sell the engine than try to find a (dry) space for it since our OM617s don't seem to be used anymore.
I stuck an ad in our PP classified if any interest, but I don't think there's too many of us near me. |

it'll sell better if you adjust the valves, and CONFIRM it runs! verify if it's had WVO run through it, heck, a PRESSURE washing and lube of the linkage goes a LONG way towards a saleable engine!
|
^^ naturally, but that would kill a day's worth of work. I'd want more money , or wouldn't want to part with it.
There have to be some gamblers out there...you can hardly buy the turbo nowadays at upullit for $150 fercrissake. They want about $300 now for a whole engine |

Too far away for me also, or I would be backing in the driveway loading it up. An engine at PNP is around $300, and that is after pulling it your self. also not verifying that it will start. If the timing chain is in one piece, the pistons aren`t sticking out the side of the block and it will turn by hand, good chance it will run. OH, and the Turbo is another $70. not part of a complete engine. there is one on CL 222k for $800. and a OM616 142k for $550. Charlie |
I may be heading to lakeland in a few days... I might pick up that engine on the way back... 150 for a low miles turbo 617? crazy!
|
As for the WVO being run in it, actually I think I bought it just as WVO was becoming the rage. I wanted to get my hands on one before they all had been ruined. I doubt it had WVO in it. I did clean it well when I put it away, but made the mistake of using that purple stuff rather than simple green, so all the alloy looks like sh&t. I at least have a good valve cover I will toss in. It's grungy looking...pumped it full of clean old oil to keep it from sticking (excess has since leaked out) but I keep spinning the crank every few weeks. The cam's not rusty.
Come and get it... |
I have an engine from a 1984 300D to sell.

Sell the car with the engine for 300, not just the engine alone for 150. Bet you anything that the whole thing as a parts car with a good running engine would sell faster than just the engine. |
