95 E300D idle control system voodoo

I sourced a good working ELR control module from ebay UK for my car, a new 4 wire coolant temp sensor too for my ongoing worries of idle control. my engine wants to idle at 1000 rpm.

I put in the new controller, new sensor and I still have 1000 rpm idle, peeled the engine wiring (its dated 2008) removed the holders behind the battery and unloomed the wiring to see for any shorts - NOPE, however Im getting codes from the ELR for coolant sensor and Y22 (idle speed controller on pump) having a short circuit.

I traced back all the wiring from end to end with a multimeter, the wiring is in tip top shape, but I still have 1000 rpm idle right upto the controller socket pins, no wires are shorted.

This leaves me 2 possibilities either the new wiring harness has some pins at incorrect places or the pump has a mechanical problem in it. I am looking for a full wiring diagram for this car/engine combo as the one on ps2cho website has the 606 but shows some differences like it speaks of 12 pin plug of the engine harness while this car has a 14 pin plug.

I cant help specifically, but dont ASSUME the wiring was installed properly. Check every pin!

You are right, the problem was in the pins of the ELR module socket, the main ground and ELR actuator ground control pins were reversed, Very odd. I got help from a friend of a friend who co-incidently had my exact full name. He used to run a repair workshop in Pakistan, after working on it for 15 minutes he discovered the problem with the Bosch wiring designations this car has, he found that pin 31 (which means direct ground) was leading to the ELR actuator on the pump,

2 pins reversed - problem solved and I have a smooth idling car, as I bought this car with this problem, I beleive the PO's mechanic who replaced the wiring somehow must have messed it up.

btw he told also told me to buy some "TESA" brand fabric looming tape, its the OE fabric looming that MB uses on the engine room wiring. Costs about 6 to 8 dollars a roll.
