main bearing size engine range

I want to replace the main bearings on my 1983 240d and I'm not sure what type of main bearings to buys.

I had the crank at the machine shop and the tech say it looked great and was in spec.

I've seen a couple of different types.
One set says Engine Range: From 12-027799
and another says Engine Range: From 10-086379

Is there a number on the block that will determine the range?

Thanks for any help.

pete

I would have thought that those numbers were the last part of your engine number.

I did see the following number on the block
6160140702

I'll look closer tomorrow and see if I can find another number.

Thanks.

I really can not say with any certainty, but would guess that that earlier number is for the early 616 engines, you have a late 616, often referred to as an uprated 616. You get a few more ponies....

I found the engine number on the block near the head. It is
616 912 1034 3344

Still searching online to find main bearings that match my engine number.
It must be the last engine they made for the US since they stopped exporting the car in 1983.

For a 83 240D you should use Glyco# H 951/5.

In the US Bearings are marked on the Steel Back of the Berings. Does Mercedes do the same thing?
