The shop did remove the wheel. They called me to come look at what was going on (it's a 91 Dodge, so there was some rust and needed a little welding.) Plus I asked them to check the back brakes while they had it on the lift. They were the last to touch it before the tire came off. I'm not one to blame mechanics but that was their fault. Now I check the area work was done right after they are done (just checked lugs on mine and the wife's car after getting new tires.)

The first post is a good start, but doesn't seem to me to be nearly enough when buying a 20+ year old car as a daily driver. Perhaps there is an extensive check list on line somewhere?
I am not buying a 20+yr old car, but after an extensive project and not driving it for almost a year, it seems like getting a new car! I have gone over all structural parts and the rear end, but I would like to make sure front end and steering are sound. I will jack it up and do a visual inspection, but maybe it needs more than that?
