Is B2 piston replacement on W116 easy?

Is B2 piston replacement on W116 (specifically, a 1980 300SD) easy like it is on a W126 or does it require tranny removal?

I'm not 100% sure which chassis you mean - conflicting evidence in your post! But assuming it still has a 722.1 transmission you can see some pictures of the B2 piston here

722.118 Automatic transmission rebuild (Monster DIY)

On a W123 I think you could probably do the job with the transmission in the vehicle. On a W116 I'd expect there to be at least as much space as a W123 - but I don't know for certain.
