What if I simply remove the alarm relay?
The anti-theft alarm on my 92 300D is starting to get flaky (coming on when it's not supposed to), so I figure the simplest thing is just to disable it. I've read a couple of threads that describe the procedure, but I'm wondering why I can't simply unplug the relay (I believe located behind the battery). Will doing that disable something else?

I suppose you cold just try it. If anything it may kill the starter or spark. My W126 had the module removed. Different car, but removal on this one did not kill anything. Central locking still works, etc.

Perhaps not dedicated relay.

IIRC it's behind the false firewall in the passenger footwell. Usually a box with Becker markings. But yes, just disconnect it and everything else should continue to function normally.

I remember reading that on the W126 anyway they specifically didn't include an ignition cutout because they can cause problems.
