Hi,
an odd problem started occurring in my 83 300D yesterday, in that when I go to start the engine, the left hand side lights (battery, brake, etc.) came on, but the glow plug and seatbelt lights didnt. I waited a bit and then cranked it anyway, and it started fine, buit was a bit of an annoyance. The odd thing is that if I hold it in the glow setting for a bit so the battery, brake, etc lights go out, then the glow and seatbelt lights will turn on. At first I thought perhaps there isnt enough voltage going through, and perhaps the lights are connected in series somehow so that the first bunch sucks out most of the energy, so the glow light and the seatbelt light dont go on untiul more power is fred up, however, I found that if I tap the glow plug light when in the heatup key position, if the plugs are still heating both lights will turn on, so therefore I think it is a connection problem. Any advice on getting to those lights to check where the bad connection may be?
It is more of an inconvenience, and on one ocasion, this morniung after sitting out in sub-30 weather, I attempted to start it immediately. It took 5-6 cranks, but started fine, so I know if I wait a few seconds, it will warm up, and I know the plugs are working, because if I wait and let them glow even without the indicator, it does start on 1-2 cranks of the engine.
I just liek to have things in perfect working order, so any info would be great.
Thanks
JMH
