OM602 and OM603 Injector Compatability

Anyone know if an 87 OM602 uses the same injector as an 87 OM603? I am needing to replace an injector on my 602 and I am finding conflicting reports if they are the same. I have access to an 87 603 but I would like to know if they are the same. Thanks

They are the same Bosch injector, adjusted to pop at a different pressure. Check the FSM, it is all spelled out - it is in mine at any rate. My 602.911 is set to pop at 125 - 603's are higher IIRC. I took the higher-set injectors to a Bosch-certified tech with an automated bench and he adjusted them to my spec.

Thanks for the info. I only have a 201 FSM so it only shows the 602. I am surprised there is a difference since the engine are so similar. Online Bosch shows the same part # but other brands do not.

Hang on, define 603. The '87 190D turbo is the first application of MB oblique injection in the US. The injectors have an M21x1.5 thread towards the tip like 603.97 (3.5/rod bender) injectors. 603.96 (3.0) injectors have an M21x2 thread further up the nozzle housing and fit into a different prechamber.

Sorry - I stand corrected. I used a 602.96x injector, not 603 as replacement in my 602.911. I assumed wrong. Thanks for the quick correction sixto.

Whew - I have to learn to keep my mouth shut.

I am talking 87 2.5 turbo and 87 3.0 turbo. I found an 87 300 in the wrecking yard and wondering if they will fit.

602.961s and .962s use oblique injectors, and IIRC the same injectors. Sounds like 602.911s also use oblique injection although injectors of different specs. I wonder why the 603.96 took a longer path to obliquity.

If the 3.0 has a #14 head, no. If it has a #17 or higher head, most likely so. You need the most likely caveat because at least Dave M/gsxr and I have modified vertical prechambers to fit later head castings. Pull the injector and look at the threads. It'll have either fine threads at the tip or coarse threads further up. Snoop around FastLane to see pictures of the difference. 603.96 injectors only have 4 threads.

Ok, now I see the difference. I need the ones with the threads on the bottom. It looks like the later 2.5 turbo 300s have the one I need as well. I do not know of any locally, only earlier 126s.
