Put on your flame suits.... Tried out Valvoline Synthetic 5w40.

It was about 5 bux cheaper than mobil1. Anyone know if the stock is the same? Where is ForcedInduction when you need him.

What does the back of the label say regarding which (if any) MB spec the oil meets?

... as long as it's got a CI or so rating, I see no problem with using it, but do you know if it's a group III or IV etc? what are you using it in? if it's only 5.00 cheaper a gallon, why bother? Rotella 5w40 is 8 or so cheaper per gallon... depending on your shopping preferances...
I stocked up on M1 at oRileys I think I have 20 gallons or so...

Most other car forums I'm on have exactly that. A dedicated oil thread that is a "sticky" at the top of the forum. We need that here.

I seem to remember reading several years back on BITOG it was a group III, but don't bet the farm on that. In any case, my truck (7.3 diesel) liked it just fine, I ran it for a couple of oil changes when the Napa around these parts had it on sale a while back. No better or no worse than M1 or T6 IMO, just got a great price on it, and I'd use it again under those cirumstances in a second.

Last I knew it was Group III, fine oil but don't expect to extend your change duration. Get a sample at 3,000 miles and take it from there.
$5 cheaper per what unit? Per quart would make me very suspicious, remember, if it seems too good to be true it probably is.

I watch for M1 on sale and pick up several gallons at a time.

I still stick by Rotella T6 - 21 bucks at Wally World is hard to beat. Of course, my 602 is N/A.

I don't care but saw him as a moderator somewhere. He may be banned there by now.

Being old school, engineer type I do not embrace change quickly. FI made the point to change to syth oil as it is less expensive to change syth @ 12k, as compared to (4) 3K dino changes. That converted me.
It is in '99 300TD, 2010 & 2011 Ford Escape, 2007 Toyota Tacoma, Kubuto 4Cyl GenSet. That is every thing except the '83 300D and the DD 6V92TA.
I stick with M1, but will consider Vavolene & Rotella if considerably cheaper.
