W126 w123 engine swap?
Greetings dieselheads. I just wanted to double check on something. If I wanted to swap an engine from an '83 300D into my '84 300SD everything should work as long as I switch over the engine mount arms and the oil filter housing right?

yes.

Sounds like you got a hold of Larry  I thought the oil filter housing was the same, just the SD has an electronic pickup for the oil pressure gauge.

There is a difference between the W123 and W126 filter housings. they will fit either engine, but there are some slight differences externally.
Even thought the 126 has a electric oil sender and the 123 has a manual pressure gauge, the rear plates will not swap between the 2 housings. I believe the oil supply hard line to the turbo is different also, maybe a different bend or 2. The angle of the housing is different also. This post shows differences between the two. http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/2861222-post128.html Charlie |

E holset is here (7 blade, divided turbine housing entry) along with a non egr intake. The intercooler is sitting on my parts shelf. A non egr w116 exhaust manifold is on it's way courtesy of DeliveryValve. I'm heading to Springfield next Saturday to pick up the parts car with the donor engine. Here's a pic of Karl, the incredibly lucky w126 who will receive all these goodies.

I put a 123 engine in my 126 (when I had it). I recall swapping the oil filter housing because of mechanical vs electrical sender and some other accessories as well just for convenience. I swapped valve covers to line up linkages.
So yes, it can definitely be done. |
Photo of some of the Go Fast goodies that will be making their way onto the new 617.

Would that be considered a cat back system?
