1985300SD glow light

I had a couple of glow plugs die on me. I replaced the plugs and car starts great. My problem is now the light does not work. All the glow plugs are working and have voltage. Can some one tell me how to verify if it is the light or what? #1 and #2 glow plugs went out and the light will not work. Help please. Thanks

Jack

Did they give you any warning?

If not, then you should state..........."I had a couple of glow plugs die on me with no warning.

That makes it personal between you and the glow plugs............as though they had a soul and a plan.

I first unplug the glow plug harness and I have a wire made up to plug each of the female 1 through 5. I touch the end of the wire to a 12 volt source and see if I get a spark. I then run the wire through an amp meter and compare the amps. My amp meter reads 2.5 to 3 amps. If the amps match up which they do I know the glow plug is good. Note I did this per instructions from a local MB mechanic.

Trusting a "local MB mechanic" is your first mistake.

Your test tells nothing. You have a small current draw to the plugs.........that's it.

The first test is to check the resistance of each plug by measuring it at each of the sockets in the harness. If the resistance is less than 1.3 ohms, you have a decent argument that the plugs are good. However, even this test is not a certainty. Others will argue that you need to pull the plugs and glow them with the battery to verify that the tip is heating properly. If the light fails to function and the resistance shows OK, this is your only option.

3 amps is not sufficient amps for the standard glow plug...

your test in not good enough to verify glow. 10 amps would be better, 20 is possible... on cold plugs.

I like to limit the ohms test to 1 ohm... I like to see .6 to .8 but still the light being out, points to more plugs being bad...

Thanks for the input. I will do some testing tomorrow and report back. Remember I am from South Carolina.

I am sure that being from South Carolina is no stumbling block to fixing this problem.
