Remove both engine shocks for oil cooler hose job?

I'll be tackling my oil cooler hoses this afternoon and was wondering if I have to remove the passenger side engine shock as well as the driver's side. I don't want to damage the shock if there's not enough play in it. Any tricks to removing these shocks? Thanks

Sometimes turning the wheel improves access to the shock lower attachment bolts.
