flasher problem

I have a 1984 300td, every time i turn on the turn signal (R or L) the hazard comes on. When I turn on the hazard it works ok. Changed the hazard switch and the relay under center console and turn signal switch on the steering column, still have the same problem. what should i do next, anybody have the circuit diagram for it. thanks

Hmm

I would suspect:
* Faulty aftermarket install of radio, or any other accessory.
* Damaged dash/console wires shorting turn signal and brake circuit.
* Damaged instrument cluster shorting turn signal and brake circuit.

W123: Instrument cluster Printed Circuit Board repair

See response in climate control thread. Maybe related. Need more info on other electrical issues.

General advice: remove fuses and clean ends. Inspect closely. Some recommend getting and using copper fuses only. I'm not that extreme, but it's not bad advice.

flasher/blinker problem

I did put on new radio 10 years ago and hadn't have this problem until recently. Break lights are fine even with both blinker going, hazard is fine too so as tail and reverse lights. Just don't have right and left blinkers going by itself, No mater do Right or Left all four goes on. I don't think I have fuse problem for this symptoms, Maybe R and L wires are shorting somewhere?

1)Remove the plug from under the hazard switch.

2)Take a loop of wire and connect the two terminals #49 and #30 on the plug.

If that does restore them, you have a poor connection on the plugs. The split sleeves on the plugs lose their grip on the pins and need to be closed in. Use a thin screwdriver to bend them in a little on the flasher and hazard plugs.

flasher/blinker problem

taking out the hazard switch and putting in a jumper in pin 30 and 49 didn't help (was a good idea). All 4 lights turn on/off at the same time. I am thinking some how after the turn signal arm the right and left wires are shorted together, but don't know where and where to start, probably after the connector from the blinker arm maybe since I put a new blinker arm and connector? Any thoughts?

Just a couple of long shots:

Do you have an alarm system? Hazard lights are connected (somewhere?)to come on when alarm goes off. I wouldn't have a clue how to disconnect it.

Have you a tow-bar with electric plug? These are very often a lash up with insulating tape. If so check the connections to the wiring harness in the trunk AND the wiring connections in the socket - a short in either between R and L could be the problem.

Sorry no more suggestions.

Have you tried substituting a known good flasher relay?

Have you re-checked the carbon brushes on the column are installed correctly?
