speeding ticket in me benz?

Who knew it was even possible!

Last night I recieved a $300 speeding ticket for going 90km/h in a 50km/h zone, but here is what makes this seemingly ordinary act of stupidity an almost unbelievable achievement, it was while going up a steep hill from a complete stop.

This is almost as good as a dyno sheet or drag strip ticket.

Ouch, that smarts! But it does seem the Mercedes was running well. And it is awful difficult to talk them out of those tickets once you have it it hand.

Check out mapmyride or equivalent to determine the grade. Look up specs for your car to determine if that much speeding is possible. Perhaps you were speeding. Perhaps the officer mis-measured or logged a place with a steeper grade making his statement impossible.

Here you can frequently go to driving school & pay a fine to keep the violation off your record. Many places are all about revenue enhancement so let you off easy on everything except your wallet.

Good thing you only got nailed for 90km/h in a 50, and not 99 or higher!

With the new street racing law, they would have IMPOUNDED your car and kept your drivers license on the spot. Aside from the insurance hit, tow bill, fine, and everything else, apparently there is a $2k addition to the fine if you argue with the officer while he is busting you for this (at THEIR discretion, not yours)

Living near Hamilton, I can attest the amazingness of pulling off 90km/h in a 50km/h. That city is full of hills (and the "mountain" of course) and I can think of times where I'm not sure my GAS Benz would have been able to hit 90km/h in Hamilton. If you did this in a diesel, you're simply amazing

By the way, what cop nails people going uphill? You'd think he would move to the other side of the road and catch people going down the hill, not up

I received a 78mph in a 55mph about 6 months ago. Cop wasn't even in the car when I passed him. I seldom go over 70 and I know I wasn't going 78.

You can speed all day long in your diesel benz. It just takes longer to get up to speeding!

I had my 82 300TD at 90 with 2 bikes on the top. I'm sure I could have come close to 100 without the bikes.

Down here its 30km over the limit so weird would have been walking for at least 30 days.
The car would have been impounded & cost $$$$$ to get it back. If you do it a few times they crush your car.

Does mechanical error help your defense? Have your speedo checked. Hopefully it's off by reading lower than actual ground speed. My Jetta TDI si 6-8 mph off at 80 MPH. Might be worth the $50 or so the test costs down here.

It amazes me how out of control the police have become. They go around armed, stop a vehicle at their discretion then walk up threatening with their hand on their gun. If it is dark outside, they have their hand on their gun and their flashlight cocked and aimed at the driver's head.

They arbitrarily confiscate property before a conviction then charge storage fees to before releasing it. Their other strategy is to simply keep it & put the $$ in their coffers. It is a very sorry state of affairs. How did we let this come to pass?

I'd not be surprised if the cop didn't realize he had the radar antenna on "rear" and actually read the speed of a car coming down the hill...it does happen. Unfortunately, with traffic tickets you are pretty much guilty until proven innocent...which is nearly impossible.

Good luck.

Best thing to do is just pay a lawyer three times what the ticket would have cost and it all goes away.

I haven't confirmed but read somewhere that we have more incarcerated measured in total numbers & per capita than any country in the world. The legal system is big business. Shoulda bought CCA stock.

An attorney friend of mine says that drugs move across TN from Memphis (west) to East. Money flows back East to West. The police aren't interested in stopping crime as evidenced by the fact that they could set up on the drug side & stop it before it hits the retail street. They choose to set up on the money side & confiscate any excess cash that they find.

They'd probably think it "excessive" to have 4 or 5k while enroute to buy an old Mercedes.

I know you are proud of it but

Contest the ticket , there may be errors on the face of it. The cop may not show up or may misstate his evidence. Check the Motor Vehicle act to see that the offense is described correctly. Besides it is just fun to see how the court system works. Visit the court before your hearing and watch which cases are thrown out and why, learn from that. I believe that everyone has the right to a fair and correct process of justice . If they get it wrong you should walk. I have followed this course for the 40 yrs I have been driving. I have lost a couple of times out of the 10 or so tickets that I have got. Be polite, be clear, question each statement the Cop makes & he may trip himself up. Nothing feels better than winning in court instead of meekly accepting the ticket. you have nothing to lose but a bit of time. Cheers Dan
