What's the going rate for a Hirschmann auta 6000 U?

G'day Folks,

Like the title says - what's the going rate for one of these (metal case one - I think is the "U")?

I've just had a narrow escape on ebay for one - I bid what I thought was too much and thankfully someone out bid me!

I'd like to get one for my 300D but well what would it cost me where you are?

I bet vstech has a few of them laying around, and they are easily rebuildable.
Myself I would not pay more than $50 for a working one. People on ebay ask a rediculous amount of money for them.

I believe that model was used in BMW also. I found a broken BMW one (antenne broken off the box) in a yard and took out the motor and board and replaced my non working one w/ the BMW parts and it worked.

There are a couple metal case Hirschmenn (Hirschmannen?) on US eBay:

Hirschmann Auta-6000U Mercedes Benz Power Antenna 485 | eBay

original 1983 MERCEDES BENZ 380SL HIRSCHMANN AUTOMATIC ANTENNE AUTA 6000 | eBay

And one in Argentina:

Mercedes Benz Hirschmann Antenna NEW OEM Boxed w107 w123 w116 | eBay

Is your antenna in the front right like most LHD Euros I've seen or in the rear left like US 123s?

I would not use the old metal case antenna unless you are a purist. It is all mechanical and prone to failure. I just replaced the 83 300D antenna with a w201 antenna of later year. It fits and it is so much simpler and a lot to choose from in JY. I need to modify the plug but it is a simple mod.

Mine is rear left - I haven't noticed them on the front wings yet... may be I saw one in the UK on a RHD there once...

Thanks for the ebay links - one seems almost reasonable at $75 but with shipping and customs tax it gets out of hand. The other two - well erm I've bought whole cars for less! (Not that that is necessarily relevant)

Thanks for the tip - I'll look into that.

Wow what a difference in price - I can buy a W201 antenna for about 45 euros on German ebay - compared with $75 for second hand + postage + tax seems like a good option to me.

You need to do a few things.

1) a new grommet for the antenna hole
2) use the old antenna bracket for the w201
3) Cut the connector from the old and fabricate a new one for the w201 as the wiring signal is different.
4) I will post the wiring this weekend when I have time.

Good luck.

Army,

BTW: I still have the old unit. It was working until one of the plastic gear broke inside. I pulled the gear from a JY with the intention of fixing it. The mask is no good so you need a new mask. You can have it for FREE just reimburse me shipping. Otherwise it goes to the recycling bin. PM me if you want to have it.

What a coincidence this thread came up, yesterday me and a member on Benz World pulled one of these metal cased antennas out of a 81 280E. thing looked brand new. car looked to have been always garaged.

we put power to it through the plug wires, and would not respond, finally with the cover off and taking the mast apart and pulling out the cable, got the motor to run ea way.
then fished the cable back in, and the motor wound the cabe in. after this the relay started to click.

so just left it there. probably something simple, but Iam not good with electrical things.

Charlie did you have the antenna ground connected when the relay was clicking?
Sometimes the teeth on the plastic mast piece get kinda ground up. That one might be worth saving..at least for good parts n pieces inside, especially if the motor was working..in the east the motors rust and stop working, easy swap out
