Coupe Owners-"drop" the windows to shut doors?

Had my 83 CD now for about 8-10yrs now, really nice CA car. But always have had to lower my door glass about a 1/2" or so for the glass to fit tight in the upper weatherstripping (which was replaced with OEM style. If I don't the glass won't "pop" into place. It works better if I lower the glass (on both sides) then slam the doors, then close the glass up tight against the weatherstripping to stop any air leaks. Is this normal?? Its kind of getting to be a PITA. The drivers side is not to bad, however the pass. door was replaced at one time from a collision, door shuts well, however I can't seem to get the glass, to "curl" into place on the rear top of window. I think something is worn in the guides etc, however don't know what to replace. Anyway would appreciate any thoughts & opinions on this!!

You need to adjust the upper window stops(2 of them, front and back) so that the window doesn't go up so high and not go under the lip of the seal when the door is closed.

I had to adjust them on my 280CE a few years ago.

slightly loosen the 10mm mount bolt and move the stop in small increments and tighten the bolt and test it out.

Thanks for your reply! I have adjusted the upper limits on the glass. Actually the rear of the glass (at the top) sticks out to far (away from the rubber) I have tried to adjust the vertical window track at the rear, but there's no more adjustment. Its like the glass is sprung out. I think I have some worn track parts??. At this point I really don't know what to replace. I will probably have to live with this. I think I expect to much from the old 123 coupe, I run the glass up tight against the rubber to cut out any wind noise. I know that the door glass has to have quite alot of pressure to curl it in tight at the top for it to clear the top weatherstripping when shut. I don't know if anyone other than an old bodyman who has worked on these cars? I have wondered how quite these coupes were when new? Anyone know? I think they all had a little wind noise around the door to rear window glass or around the sunroof?

My coupe seals up nice and tight all the way around the glass, i don't have much wind noise.

Maybe the regulator is bent or isnt installed properly... Its hard to say on the computer with out physically working on it in person.

I have the same problem but my seals are old and hard. You replaced yours, but how long ago? No offense but are you sure you got them into place precisely? It doesn't look like an easy job to me (not compared to conventional door seal arrangements anyway).

another reason could be the rear glass. Make sure the front to rear window seal is positioned correctly. when the rear window regulators start to stick it will bend and the rear window will hold the front window back edge out.

I regularly spray weatherstripping in order to have doors close smooth and windows to slide up and down easily.
Its possible in your case you may get the drivers door window to work better.

You mentioned collision on the right side. Possibly something is permanently out a little and you may have to compromise some adjustments.
It may never be perfect.

I did the adjustment on mine. Here's the video of it.....

Works perfect now.
