97 E300D stuck in 2nd gear and help?

My transmission has been sklipping and I have been babying it along. Today while going up a steep hill it bucked a few times and now is stuck in 2nd gear. I cant go any faster than 30mph and that is tops or it really revs up. Is there anything I can do to get it unlocked so that I can get a few more weeks/months out of it? Thanks

If the car has an OBD2 port you might be able to pull and reset fault codes.

I thought transmission codes needed a tester that only Mercedes had?

Maybe. Couldn't hurt to see if a generic reader finds anything.

Well I tried , I got codes PO1367(must be a dealer code) and PO730 which is incorrect gear ratio. Deleted them both and the tranny is still stuck in 2nd gear. AGHH

I got 2nd gear limp mode on my 97 a couple years ago. Search "97 transmission limp mode" for the thread. I had to replace contactor plate in transmission. DIY repair, just keep everything clean. About $500 total for parts, fluid, and code-resetting once all is said and done.

The big question is how was your tranny before this occurred? My transmission has been slipping si I presume that it is on its last legs. This after I replaced the the fluid and filter and the electrical connectore that the fluid leaks on.

I just wanted to get alittle more time out of this and then look for a used transmission to install/.

You are in limp home mode, and have a bad #5 or 6 GP too.
