where to buy p/s pump front seal?
i need to replace the seals in my power steering pump, but mainly the front seal behind the pulley. i can't find anywhere that sells this, or the seal kit for the pump, it appears they just sell the seal kit for the steering box. every place i've looked just has the whole pump for sale for $200 or more.
any help/links would be appreciated. thanks. -philip |
Dealer.
they should be able to get it for you. |
You could also take it apart & take the seals to a bearing & seal supply. They can match up unless they are custom parts. Seals sometimes are, frequently not. Post specs if you go that route.

A good bearing place should have it. We try to always use viton seals (brown/pink ones) they last much longer & take heat better. |
i caved and called the dealer. i'll be making the 100+ mile round trip in the morning. ugh.
i'll see if i can get the specs for the community and post the info. |

You could look for the seal on Oil Seals Cross Referece List to Major Oil Seals Manufacturers and Distributors Some one with a seal needs to have a close look at it & get the numbers off it !!! |

The necessary specs are inner & outer diameter, thickness. It is probably double lipped.
At $6.50 for the Elring piece, there is not much to save but I have a supply store close & they don't charge shipping. I've also bought Elring gasket sets from the indy NAPA store. NAPA always gets close on price when I document what the competition's price is. I try to support the non-chain places to help them stay around. Their service is usually better than the McParts stores. |

May be 5X the price but you replace it once & never again. Down here I would expect to pay about $15 for a viton seal about that size. |
Do these pumps have rubber o-rings at the terminals where the PS hose flare fitting fits upon? Or is it all-metal to metal contact?
