new transmssion noise
I have what I suspect to be a transmission noise...
I can hear it in all RPMs. The noise changes a small amount in tone as I change RPMs. When I shift into R or Neutral the noise stops for a couple of seconds then starts again. Any ideas or suggestions to start ruling out problems? |
Can you turn the radio up:)? - jk
How does it run out/change gears? How does the fluid look? Has it been changed lately? |
It seems to be running ok. I just recently steam cleaned the fuel tank and pulled out all of my Vegetable oil stuff out and replumbed the fuel lines to stock.
(I also think I hit the under side and top side of the engine with the pressure washer when I was steam cleaning the tank.) Xmission fluid and filter were replaced about a year ago when I replaced a broken B2 piston. Doesn't smell unusual to me now. I was a little concerned that the sound was the engine, because I was about 2qts low, but the oil pressure was fine and I have since added oil. |
I just got off the phone with pops. The car is at his house. He says rear main bearing seized...
Says it ran for about 2 minutes, and now it won't turn at all. Can someone tell me some good news and this a a common misdiagnosis for something that has an easy 5 minute fix? Does that sound like it goes along with the previous symptoms to you? Please let this be some sort of cruel prank... |
A bearing going bad can make noise.
|
But why would the noise stop when I shift into R or N?
|
WAG
Noise "Temporarily" ceased in Neutral because the LOAD was
decreased? |
As you change the "load" on the bearing it can change the noises coming from it.
