Pleasant Surprises '77 240D

While replacing the headlights on my 240D (that I have owned for 8 years) I finally noticed the plug for the block heater. Duh...though I do live in Florida.

I didn't think this car had one. Nice surprise.

When I lived in Maine 20 years ago I had to plug my '84 300D in every night from ~Thanksgiving to Easter.

Any other nice surprises out there with your cars?

My first pleasant surprise was my grandmother gave me my 300D for free. It came with 138,038 miles on the odometer, all-original condition.

My second pleasant surprise were these wheels at the junk yard. Waited four years for these to pop up, and they eventually did. Had them restored, painted, and slapped on a set of Michelins.

My third pleasant surprise was finding an original rear sunshade for the W123 sedan:

I also found a silver fork under the rear seat...

I was pretty excited last year when my dad found the original window sticker for my 300D in a box of his stuff, along with original receipts and a few documents.
On my 240D, it's mostly been the other kind of surprises, but it was a nice discovery when the build sheet showed the heated seats are actually a factory item.

Everytime I see MBeige's tan Mercedes, I... am... envious. That is a beautiful car.

There. I said it.

Two years ago when the original owner of our 240D, gave it to us.

met the lady in a gas station, she gets out of her car, I say "nice car". she says she is the original owner. then mentiones she was thinking of trading it in on a new car. I mention if she does, PNP may get it from the wholesale yard, and a month later it will be crushed. Well, she didn`t want that to happen. she mentione she was missing the R/F Hub cap. i said I may have one. we exchange info. a week later I find it, go down where she works, and put it on and leave a note. "check your R/F wheel". she calls up that night all excited and thanks me. a week later she calls and asks if we want her car. how much? OH, we decided, it is yours. . wow we were pinching ea other all week.
week later her Husband calls, and we get together. meet him in parking lot. signs papers ect... where it said price, he wrote in, "Gift". gives me the key and leaves. Incredable, still don`t believe it hapened.

MBEIGE does have an incredable looking 123. I have only come across one set of those 15" Bundts. and they were on an old W116 in PNP.

Re: finding the Bundts: I've found 3 sets of 4 on Craigslist, and they ran $100 per set. Since those came on many cars, people seem to stash them in the garage even when the Mercedes is sold. Don't forget to ask for the lug bolts, they usually are saved, but not in the same part of the garage as where the wheels are sitting! Ron

Thumbs up SUPRISE!!

Well, I found the original spare tire and jack and tire iron. The tire wasn't in the worlds greatest condition, though! Then, once we drove it home, I found that the rear bolts for the passenger seat had been removed, so the seat would tip forward very easily. Guess where I rode all the way home?!? Other than that, I found the antifreeze leak, the buisiness card under the seat, the candy wrapper, the melted crayons on the hat shelf, and the dim dash lights actually do have a way to adjust them!!

best surprise with the 87 Champagne

The previous owner finding and sending a folder full of receipts to me with the car. Inside the folder was the receipt for the remanufactured engine work that happend less than 40K miles ago. And the transmission was rebuilt at the same time.
