I just recently moved from CO and never had a water problem. The Chevy doesn't have a drain but a water sensor that will signal water in the system. Never has triggered yet.

So, since the Benz doesn't have a drain, or a water sensor it would seem to me that you should either remove the filter and dump it out periodically, or replace it from fear of water build up.

I suspect the manufacturer has recognized these issues but must not consider them of major consequence since there is nothing mentioned of maintenance intervals for water prevention.

Anyone seen factory info on water issues?
My guess is that since the Bosch inline IP is not fuel lubricated but engine oil lubed, it is more tolerant of water in fuel, to a degree.

A cup of water is a lot! Water in the tank can be introduced or from condensation (amount depends on climate). Not a bad idea to drain the filter and tank from time to time. I looked at a 617 tank (out of the car) recently, the strainer is on a pedestal about 3/4" above the bottom so there is considerable space for water to settle before making its way to the IP.

This is one of the nicest diesel fuel filter I've come across. It has a glass sedimenter for water you can clearly see through, it has a drain for mess free changing of the filter element, and finally, it has a piston type primer pump.
