Question Delivery vale seals on my IP

Morning all.
The delivery valve seals are leaking from the IP.Its a 603 engine.
Do I have to remove the intake to perform this task?
Cheers

NO, not the last time I did all six seals. It may give you better access if you remove it but I did not.

Quick question about the brass washers....
These new washers sit on top of the pistons and then the spring sits in the center grove above the piston correct?

After doing this job yesterday when I started the engine it was nailing considerably more then it was before!
Even after the engine was hot the nailing was still audible.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what I may have done wrong?

Cheers

Just did a delivery valve o-ring and washer replacement. Only took us about 90 minutes to do the whole job! After the fact the noise is just barely a bit louder. It starts much better now and of course the leak is gone! I hear that the noise will go down after the first couple hundred miles of driving. I did not remove any of the little delivery valves, just left them in the bores and fished the washers off the top. Was very careful about keeping it clean and not messing up the valves. Even taking extreme care, I had two of the copper washers drop down besides the valve assembly. A small awl got them out. Only had one center piston piece come out accidentally on the delivery valve and tried to get it back as it came out. I probably spent more time assembling and verifying the spring was properly centered then any other step.

I'd drive it for a while and see how the noise comes along. Did you remove the valves out of the pump? I hear if you do any thing to them (even disassembling to look at them) that the parts will take a while to fit together again. They appear to be very close tolerance parts and as a result best to not disassemble them as the lapped surfaces will be misaligned and lead to more noise. May take a while for the pieces to find a nice equilibrium.

I am putting this in my notes because there has been several members in the past who have what I am going to say was bad luck with the Job. I plan to post this thread and say to look at your Post.

Not being there I can only guess they did not use the extreme care you used; and, why your job came out OK!
Clearly being careful paid off.

Most people have reported a louder noise after doing the job. It for some reason goes away (or people get used to it) after a while.

It is also possible something went wrong but there is no details as to how you did the job to comment on that.

The Delivery Valve is a 2 part assembly.
The outer Cylintrical Barrel and the Central Valve.
While the Valve can fit into both ends of that Barrel only one end is properly machined for the Valve. So it is better if possible to leave those parts alone.
As you said the Spring sits on top of the Central Valve.

Its been a few weeks now since the delivery valves and injector nozzles were replaced....I must say the fuel consumption has dramatically decreased.I drive about 40km (25 miles +/-) a day everyday.Went from a half tank every two weeks to 1/4 tank for the same millage every two weeks!
There is a significant increase in power, allot less smoke at start up.My top speed? I cant tell ya other wise !!!
All I can say,its faster!

One more thing. The nailing has gone away by about 95%.

Cheers
