617 Transmission Cooler Specs
Hi All, I have a little transmission oil leak at the oil cooler line. Looks like the solution might be to replace the aluminum crush washer right there...
However, I have MOST of the digital service manual but not all of it, and I'm missing the section on the automatic transmission. Does anyone have this chapter, or know what the torque specs for the transmission cooler line banjo bolt should be? I want to crush that crush washer correctly. |

Unless you have a different copy from me, you'll not find a chapter for the transmission on the English version of the CD. There is, however, a copy of that chapter on the German language original version...
I can't find a torque specification in either the 722.1 or 722.3 ATSG manuals. Perhaps someone else will be able the help?

Hmm, too bad. Do other people just guess at on this bolt?
Looks like it should be chapter 27... If we had the german version we could google translate it. Thanks Army! |

I'll see what I can do - if I don't respond in a few days give me a nudge...

I managed to have a look through the German language CD - it is a pain in the arse as it needs to be accessed via Windows virtual CD software... I hate windows...
Anyway the chapter on removing and replacing the transmission is full of warnings about replacing the seals and flushing the oil cooler but it doesn't specify a torque. My German is pretty crap though; but my Dutch is good enough to make most of it seem understandable! My recommendation would be to replace the seals (they should be cheap) and tighten to about one white knuckle on a 1/4 inch ratchet handle! Main message => don't go mad you don't need to try and kill it. Make sure the joining surfaces are clean and you've got new seals / washers, and you should be good to go.

I'd guess about 15Nm/10 lbft like the TC drain plug. Otherwise I'd use whatever is the spec for the banjo bolts on the clear lines that attach to the IP.
