Good Day! I am intending to purchase Baldwin P102 oil filters for my '87 300TDT. Their filtering ability seems to be fantastic per:

and
OIL FILTERS: which one to buy????

To that end, these are not cheap filters. However, I have found them for $14.31/filter if I purchase a case of 12. I am willing to do this but am not sure if they "expire"; dry up; rot.

Oil filters can last a very long time if stored properly... Like not being exposed to sunlight, extreme heat, etc...

With that said, the Baldwin P102 is not the proper filter for a OM602/603 engine. It is made for the OM616/617.

The OM602/603 Baldwin version of the oil filter is not a desirable filter. It was found to have waste cotton for the bypass portion.

Your better off getting a Mann filter.

Car will usually expire before the spare filters do.

I have run across several oil filters stored in the trunks of vehicles I've aquired... rust on the plates, some the sections have come apart... while properly stored filters should last for years, poorly stored ones fail quickly...

Besides all the junk found in certain brands of filters. It was amazing to me how little a quantity of filter medium was present in some american branded diesel filters compared to european brand names.

I would guess they had less than 10 percent of a good filters filtration medium in the can. Bad enough to look like a scam to me. Although baldwin oil filters have had a fair reputation.
