1979 300sd

Removed the Thermostat and noticed some sort of sealer being used to join the thermostat to the housing.

The rubber gasket is also there.

Do I need to use a sealer for this job?

The rubber gasket is the seal. If the housing is in good condition, it should clamp down on the seal to make it watertight.

Hope you got yours back together in fine order.
