Starter Brushes

I have the starter from my om617.952 starter apart and all it "needs" is a new set of brushes, does anyone know where to buy some?

If you have a local place that fixes starters, you might be able to coax them out of a set. Your local Napa might also be able to get you a set since the counterguys know how to read a book, not poke buttons on a computer.

Bosch used to sell brushes in a blister pack, but I have not bought any from them in years.

Kudos to you for fixing it, and not buying a risky "rebuilt" unit.

Ace Hardware usually has a good selection of brushes available. If you can't find an exact fit, larger ones can usually be cut and sanded to fit pretty easily.

Once I get everything cleaned up I'll swing by one of the local places and try to match up a set. Wasn't sure if there was a kit I could order somewhere online.

Blasphemy! :p I'll get an email out to Phil ASAP

**EDIT** After a literally 1 minute turnaround on his email (who that's fast). Phil doesn't have them, I'll give the local guys a shot. If I can get a part # / supplier I'll post it up when I find out.

You know you don't really need to buy the brush holder? The old one is likely of better quality than the new one. Either way, you need to unsolder the wires from the old holder then solder the new brushes into the old or new brush holder.

Do you guys think I can get away with covering this cracked insulation with epoxy? Or should I start looking for a new starter?

I do not see why not.
High temp Silicone Sealant might also work and OSH sells something they call liquid electrical tape that you Brush on; don't know how much heat it is made to take.

I apologize, I didn't get any photos. However, those are the correct parts and it all went together without a hitch-I soldered in the new brushes, installed the new carrier & springs, reassembled and tested

$15 + time and I've got a "new" starter
