Autozone sells a Metric O-ring assortment made by Dorman for about $8.
Dorman Metric 172 piece O-ring Value Pack #799-450

In it are 24 of the 6mmIDx10mmODx2mmW O-rings that you need for the bottom of the Oil Filter Stem: enough for 12 Oil Filter Changes as you need 2 O-rings each time you change it.

The 10mmIDx17mmODx2.5mm in the kit fits the bottom of the Filter Bolt; you get 24 of those in the kit.

On 617.952s you can substitue a 7mmx11mmx2mm in the upper groove on the Oil Filter Stem instead of the 6mmx10mmx2mm. If you do that you have enough O-rings for 24 O-ring changes. (This was suggested by another member and I did it and it works.)

Ok... I pulled the filter housing cover off... found two brittle hard orings on the end of the middle shaft, took them out with a small screw driver, and put on two 6x10 orings in their place. Once I put it all back together it took about 30 to 40 seconds before the pressure popped up.

On subsequent starts it still is taking 20-25 seconds for the pressure to pop up. So its improved but still seems to long. Looking for more suggestions.

If you take down the lower oil pan there is an overpressure valve right next to the pump pickup. I've seen these valves sticking with those same symptoms. They are usually repairable.

Did you test your gauge to make sure it is functioning properly? Tee in another gauge /Schraeder valve and use a bicycle pump to check that your gauge is not sticking. From memory, my 300DT gauge comes up to pressure within a 2 seconds from an overnight cold start.

Our 1980 240D use to take a count to about 8 before the oil pressure would come up to 45 psi or 3 bar on the newer gauges.

I changed the 2 small "O" rings and it was still about the same time to go to the max pressure.

I changed to a synthetic oil, it now comes right up when the engine is started cold. It took a while before it seemed to "fix" it's self so to speak.

I have no idea of the oil change intervals of the previous owner.

We got the car at 305K, went to a syn at 321K and are now at 335K.

Don't know if the syn oil had anything to do with it or not or a coincidence.

Those two little "O" rings do get like a hard piece of plastic if not changed every now and then. I also just picked up the Dorman "O" ring kit at Autozoo for $7.99.

I was curious of mine and shot this video of a cold start. Synthetic, around 300k, oil filter o-rings changed approx 3 years ago. As you can see, it takes about 2 seconds to reach max pressure. I can't be sure but I think it has always done that, even when I was using dino oil.

I have a vacuum pump.... I'm pretty sure I can tap off the back of it and turn it into a pressure pump.. rather than t, I'd suppose I could just pull the line and put the pump on it.

I've been fixing other stuff or under the weather so the car has just sat... hope to get back on it soon.

Looking for a diagram of the pressure relief valve as well...

i pulled the line that feeds the guage from the filter assembly and screwed on an oil pressure test guage... it popped right up as soon as it started and registered very accurately changes in oil pressure as I varied engine RPM... so its my indash gauge that is showing erroneous pressure and taking its sweet time to register any pressure during a start... no worries now.

Yours and everyone else's. The gauge is not capable of displaying pressure over three bar; actual oil pressure is regulated well above that.
