Hi All,

I have a 1993 300d, which I have removed the transmission and am thinking of selling "as is". I went to start the engine (I want prospective buyers to be able to hear it run) and ran into some problems.

The starter will not turn. Battery has been charged, shift selector sensor is in P/N position. It turned once after I fiddled with that sensor but has not turned since. It has no alarm system.

Any ideas?

If it was an Automatic Transmission you removed you had to unplug or cut the Wires to the Neutral Safety Switch.
So you need to find the Wires that went to the Neutral Safety Switch and connect them together.

Yes, it was the auto transmission. I guess I am calling the part by the wrong name. I removed the neutral safety switch and it is hanging from the bottom of the car. Is there a way to jump it so I can remove that as a possible problem?

Worst case scenario, can I jump a wire straight to the starter with the ignition "on"?

Switch is probably not in the 'Park' position. Yes, you should be able to hot wire the starter.

Without the added flywheel mass of the torque converter, the engine will be hard to crank and will be very erratic, if you get it running.

Drain the torque converter and bolt it to the engine. Don't rev over 2,000 ish as the converter will have some wobble since it isn't bolted to the trans and make sure all wiring is away from converter. Also prop the engine up to prevent the fan from hitting the rad / hoses.

Can't you just move the NSS to the park position? It'll be one of the extremes.

IIRC W124s have a junction block by the brake master cylinder where the NSS wires continue to the starter. You can bridge certain wires to engage the starter. Still looking for a picture...
