Well I've settled with the insurance company. Their third offer is acceptable. I will get a bit more than I paid for the car and will be keeping it. I might have been able to do better, but I'm satisfied with it since it keeps me from involving my own insurance. I had to file a claim last year, and don't want another one on the books.

So now it's time to decide what to do here... I'm pretty sure I want to park the drivetrain in the back of my garage for a future project, I was thinking that it might make a good swap into a 300CE or maybe a SEC model?

What motavated them to treat you a little more fairly? I am fairly certain if you had purchased the car say four years earlier they would have played hardball on a write off value.

Well they weren't really that hard to deal with, the company is USAA and I've got to say they were very sympathetic. Just took a lot of phone conversations and having the recent ebay invoice really helped. Of course I would have preferred that the car not be destroyed in the first place...

I'm glad you are receiving something your fine with. Good job in following up with that.

I vaguely remember this car, It probably be a good idea to strip the whole interior as well as your drivetrain and transfer it to a basketcase shell. There should plenty of fairly cheap non-rust belt options out there.

Will you sell the interior, or the entire car minus the powertrain...? Just curious.

Yes. That is what I've been thinking since I really don't have space to keep it for more than a few more months. Send me a PM with what you think is a reasonable offer.

That's just freakin' sad, man. It seems like you've dealt with it really philosophically which is admirable. I'd be profoundly disappointed as well, but like you said it was completely out of your hands, there's no way you could have known, and you certainly can't blame yourself (which is the worst situation).

Well, I'm very glad to hear you were dealing with USAA. They are an outstanding organization. If you were able to get the car, plus enough to replace it, you should be able to put it behind you. I think if another similar wagon is out thereor offered on the board, you should be given first dibbs....

This "looking at your smart phone while driving" is getting out of control. There are already laws on the books everywhere for distracted driving but its like people don't seem to think cell phones count. I am not a big fan of more laws when there is already ones that fit on the books but I think this needs to be addressed.
I see this everyday, they are easy to spot: a person is looking down at their lap and then looking up-over and over again, while swerving .
I correct the ones I can when I see them, as it going to be someone I know that is killed or hurt sooner or later, but I am sure its not long before they start up again.

At least you were not hurt, she was a nice car.

Exit ramp was 2 lanes. I was turning right & passed 3 out of 4 drivers who were talking on their cell while driving.

OP, Strip the car, sell what you don't need. Little things including wiper motors count.

Sell the carcass. Be aware that some hoods are aluminum and aluminum brings a higher price when sold for scrap than does steel. I received $35 for my crumpled SD hood.

Sorry you lost your Wagon mate. I would have beat the kid to death, or rather beat him half to death twice. Thank god for USAA right?
